In the field of FDM 3D printing, there are seven mainstream materials: PLA, PETG, ABS/ASA, TPU, PC, PA/PET, and PPS. Below is a detailed explanation of their core properties, compatible accessories, and application scenarios:

1. PLA

The top choice for entry-level users, PLA is an eco-friendly, non-toxic, and odorless material. It is extremely easy to print with, exhibits almost no warping, and has no special equipment requirements. It prints normally even without a heated bed; a low-temperature heated bed only helps achieve a flatter bottom surface. 2. PETG

An all-round general-purpose material that combines the printability of PLA and the high toughness of ABS. It is shatter-resistant, compression-resistant, waterproof, and moisture-proof, with high transparency. Finished parts are tough and crack-resistant, with an extremely low warping risk. Even beginners can easily produce high-quality prints, and its compatibility far exceeds ordinary materials.

It is the most widely used versatile material for daily printing.

3. ABS/ASA

Industrial-grade durable materials with high strength, good toughness, heat resistance, and wear resistance. The ASA variant features enhanced UV resistance and anti-aging properties, resisting yellowing and brittleness during long-term outdoor use, thus covering a wider range of applications.

These materials tend to warp during printing and require a heated bed and enclosed build chamber for stable printing.

Compatible accessories: Stainless steel/hardened steel nozzles, high-temperature heated build plates

Application scenarios: Mechanical structural parts, equipment enclosures, outdoor products, engineering models, and durable tools.

They are frequently chosen for commercial and industrial printing.

4. TPU

A dedicated flexible and elastic material with a soft texture, high resilience, bending resistance, and waterproofing. It is available in a wide range of hardness options and can produce rubber-like flexible parts with exceptional toughness and no cracking. Smooth material feeding is required during printing to avoid clogging.

Compatible accessories: Smooth-feeding hot ends, standard brass nozzles

Application scenarios: Seals, shock-absorbing parts, flexible protective sleeves, footwear materials, toy cushioning components, and mechanical elastic parts.

It is the preferred choice for custom flexible components.

5. PC

A high-strength engineering-grade material with excellent light transmittance, heat resistance, and exceptional impact resistance. It features high rigidity and outstanding dimensional stability. As a premium professional material, it demands high-performance equipment: high-temperature hot ends, heated beds, and enclosed printing environments to prevent warping and deformation.

Compatible accessories: Heat-resistant stainless steel/hardened steel nozzles, high-temperature heated build plates

Application scenarios: Highly transparent precision models, mechanical load-bearing parts, electronic device enclosures, high-temperature operating parts, and professional industrial models.

6. PA/PET

A high-performance nylon composite material that combines the wear resistance, heat resistance, and high toughness of PA (nylon) with the easy formability and low warping of PET. It has moderate water absorption and does not require lengthy drying before printing, achieving an excellent balance between strength and flexibility.

Compatible accessories: Upgraded brass/stainless steel nozzles, constant-temperature heated build plates

Application scenarios: Gears, bearing sleeves, wear-resistant transmission parts, tool handles, and high-strength practical structural parts.

It balances durability and practicality.

7. PPS

A specialty high-performance industrial material with outstanding heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and chemical resistance. It offers ultra-high dimensional stability and resists deformation during long-term use. As a premium industrial-grade material, it requires high printing temperatures, supported by high-temperature hot ends, high-power high-temperature heated beds, and enclosed build chambers.

Application scenarios: High-end industrial precision models, chemical industry components, parts for high-temperature environments, and special precision structural parts.
